Wisin

Wisin (Juan Luis Morera Luna) is a prolific rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. In addition to a successful solo career, he is half of the internationally renowned reggaeton duo Wisin & Yandel and has been a go-to collaborator for more than 100 reggaeton, trap, and Latin pop artists who include Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, Enrique Iglesias, and Sebastian Yatra. Though Wisin & Yandel issued three gold albums between 2000 and 2004 (the latter year marked the release of Wisin’s first solo album, El Sobreviviente), it was 2005’s Pa’l Mundo that marked their mainstream breakthrough.

Though Wisin guested with others frequently, he and Yandel remained steadfast for another nine years, racking up hit albums and singles, including 2010’s La Revolución and 2012’s Líderes, before going on hiatus. Wisin released his chart-topping sophomore outing El Regreso del Sobreviviente in 2014. 2015’s Los Vaqueros: La Trilogia was certified platinum and topped several charts. 2017’s Victory also went platinum. Wisin & Yandel reunited for 2019’s Los Campeones del Pueblo: The Big Leagues with a handful of producers who included Tainy and DJ Luian. In 2021, Wisin issued his fifth solo album, Los Legendarios 001, followed a year later by Multimillo, Vol.

1 and singles like “Tiempo” and the Anuel AA collaboration “MI EXXX.”

In 2020, despite a global pandemic, Wisin managed to release a dozen singles under his own name — in addition to many guest spots.

“Gistro Amarillo” (feat. Ozuna) and “Enemigos Ocultos” (feat.

Arcángel, Juanka, and Cosculluela) peaked well within the Top 20 at streaming while registering hundreds of millions of views on YouTube. In addition, Wisin announced the creation of his own label, La Base Music, in June. He was inspired to become a resource and mentor for younger talent following stints as a coach on reality TV shows La Voz and La Banda. In early October, “Mi Niña” (feat. Myke Towers & Los Legendarios), charted at streaming, while the 2017 solo outing Victory re-entered the Top Latin Albums charts in late September. In February of 2021, Wisin released Los Legendarios 001, his fifth solo album. It went to number eight on the U.S. Latin Albums charts. Follow-up singles included the 2022 streaming hits

“Buenos Días” and “3G,” which appeared on his next album, Multimillo, Vol. 1, that July. Among his many 2023 collaborations were “MI EXXX” with Anuel AA and “Sandunga” with Don Omar and Yandel. ~ Jason Birchmeier & Thom Jurek, Rovi.
